'Agents of SHIELD': Chloe Bennet and Elizabeth Henstridge reveal who they're shipping
There's a whole lot of 'shipping going on on "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD," and not a lot of romance actually taking place. Beyond Ward (Brett Dalton) and May (Ming-Na Wen) hooking up and Coulson (Clark Gregg) really loving Lola, there are more sparks flying between characters than ones that are actually being consummated.
"As like BFFLs -- as BFFs for life -- obviously Skimmons is at the top of my priority list," Bennet tells Zap2it at ABC's TCA 2014 winter press tour party.
After clarifying to Henstridge what "shipping" means, she echoes the same sentiments. "I'm obsessed with Skye and I'm obsessed with Chloe," she says. "Yeah, Skye and Simmons could get together. Why not?"
All girl-on-girl friendship obsessions aside, both actresses have some pretty definite feelings about the relationships that could or could not be happening on the show.
"Here's the thing. I think Ward and Skye are soulmates. As a fan of the show, I do ship the relationship. I think they're very cute," Bennet says.
And at least viewers can know that Skye and Ward's dynamic is the same that Bennet and Dalton's is in real life. "The making fun of Grant Ward, like 'I'm Agent Grant Ward,' that happens," Bennet shares. "We always make fun of Brett. Brett's hilarious only when he's not trying to be. And when he's trying to be, he's never funny, and it's awesome. But it's funny that he's not funny."
"Iain and I, we talk about the fact that we don't play any of the romanticism. I feel like Simmons genuinely, he might be the person that she should marry, but she doesn't see it like that. It's 100 percent not in her conscious realm, anyway," Henstridge says. "Then when we see how they cut it together and how it looks on camera, we're kind of like, 'Oh my god. That was flirty! We didn't mean it to be flirty.'"
She doesn't want them to get together, either. "Who knows what's going to be written in," she says. "At the moment, I can't see it happening, but then I'm in the same mindset as Simmons is. We only get the scripts before we're about to shoot them. In my mind, yes [FitzSimmons shouldn't be romantic], but then again I also feel like I've probably got a huge veil over my head."
Since Skye's one big romantic lead is currently seeing another woman, Bennet has her eyes on some other Marvel actors who she hopes will swing by the "Agents of SHIELD" set to hook up with her hacker character.
"Marvel's Agents of SHIELD" airs Tuesday on ABC at 8 p.m. ET/PT, and returns on Feb. 4 with one big episode. Which characters on the show are you shipping the most?
