'Nikita's' Shane West lands lead role in WGN America's 'Salem'
Another "Nikita" alum has landed his first post-"Nikita" role.
WGN America's first scripted series, starring Janet Montgomery, is set in the volatile world of 17th century Massachusetts and explores what really fueled the town's infamous witch trials (full disclaimer: Zap2it and WGN are both owned by Tribune). The drama centers on Mary Sibley (Montgomery), the beautiful and ruthless but vulnerable wife of the ancient, ailing but very wealthy George Sibley, one of the Salem town Selectmen.
West will play John Alden, a hardened veteran of 10 years of war and captivity at the hands of the Indians who returns to his native Salem to find it consumed in Witch Hunt frenzy, led by Cotton Mather (Seth Gabel).
"The Tudors" star Tamzin Merchant also joins the cast of "Salem" as the beautiful Anne Hale, a talented artist who is attracted to the newly arrived John Alden, unaware of his history with Mary Sibley.
With "Nikita" about to kick off its fourth and final season, West is not the only alum to have lined up his first post-"Nikita" role. Noah Bean recently booked a recurring role on another upcoming drama series, FOX's "Gang Related."
"Nikita's" fourth and final season premieres Friday, Nov. 22 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.
