'Looking': Latest trailer for HBO's new gay comedy paints a fuller picture of what's to come
With every new trailer for "Looking," HBO's upcoming show about gay life in San Francisco, it's becoming clearer and clearer that the series is following the "Girls" model on crafting a comedy. Which is to say that comedy doesn't even seem like the right word.
While there are certainly some clever quips, this latest clip, which broadens the scope from just Jonathan Groff's character to reveal a cast that represents a wider cross section of of the gay community, suggests a show focused a bit more on an authentic portrayal of love, with the occasional melancholia in the mix. It ought to make the perfect companion piece with Lena Dunham's series: An hour of "comedy" for viewers who don't want their comedy to make them laugh all that much.
"Looking" premieres Sunday, Jan. 19 at 10:30 p.m. on HBO.
