'The Simpsons': Character who dies revealed?
The biggest news to hit the animated world in some time is that an Emmy-winning character in the "Simpsons" universe will die. The news was initially spilled by executive producer Al Jean.
Many have figured the death would be Krusty the Clown's dad, Rabbi Hyman Krustofski, a character that won Jackie Mason an Emmy award. However, that might not be the case.
TMZ spoke with actress Jennifer Tilly, who was married to former "Simpsons" creative consultant Sam Simon during his time on the show. She says she hasn't spoken to Sam about who the character being killed off is, but that the rumor going around is that it's Apu Nahasapeemapetilon (Hank Azaria), proprietor of the Kwik-E-Mart.
While the character definitely does fit the criteria Jean shared, as he said an actor has won an Emmy for the dying character, this wouldn't really make sense for the show. Apu is a central character, with his Kwik-E-Mart serving as a common setting in the show.
It's possible the audience may say goodbye to Apu, it's not likely. As for rumors about who will go, the death is a closely guarded secret. While speaking to EW, Jean says the character has appeared on the series more than twice, but even the actor who voices them doesn't know yet.
He says the story is both emotional and funny, but adds that fans will have to wait for it. That's right, the death is currently scheduled to air during Season 26, which won't broadcast until fall 2014.
