'Ray Donovan's' Eddie Marsan joins 'Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell' for BBC America
BBC America has named the cast for "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell," which is based on a novel by Susanna Clarke. The network is co-producing the seven-part series, set in 19th-century England, with the BBC.
"Ray Donovan" star Eddie Marsan will play Mr. Norrell, while Jonathan Strange will be portrayed by stage actor Bertie Carvel. The story follows two magicians during the Napoleonic War, in a world there magic is rare, but real. "I can't wait to start playing Norrell in this terrific adaptation of Susanna Clarke's novel," Marsan says of the role, "and to be working with such a cast of actors, many of whom I've admired for so long."
The rest of the cast includes Alice Englert, Marc Warren, Samuel West, Charlotte Riley, Enzo Cilenti and Paul Kaye.
Filming on the series is set to begin in the next week, under the direction of Toby Haynes. "Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell" will join BBC America's "Supernatural Saturday" lineup when it premieres.
