'Devious Maids' episode 10 - 'Hanging the Drapes': Sexy shockers revealed
As the first season of "Devious Maids" builds toward the end, a major clue about who was involved with Flora, the murdered maid, is dropped in Sunday's (Aug. 25) episode.
Alejandro (Matt Cedeno), the aloof, sexy pop star Carmen (Roselyn Sanchez) works for, reveals he is gay.
And Olivia, (Valerie Mahaffey), Michael's first wife, hangs herself from the tree in front of Michael and Taylor's (Brett Cullen, Brianna Brown) house during their dinner party. Not quite the second course they were expecting after announcing that Taylor is pregnant.
Another major story line has Remi Delatour (Drew Van Acker) returning from rehab. Despite Valentina's (Edy Ganem) worry that he will blame her for being sent there when his massive cocaine habit resurfaced, he appears as in love with her as she's always been with him.
Remi is one of the big surprises of the episode. Not just because he kept his shirt on -- we have Alejandro stripping at every possible moment -- but because Remi is implicated in Flora's murder.
Marisol (Ana Ortiz) learns that her son, Eddy, the only suspect for Flora's murder, was a drug dealer. His partner was Brad, with whom Eddy worked as a cater waiter.
Marisol, who puts the devious in "Devious Maids," manipulates her employer, Taylor, into throwing a dinner party and hiring the catering company. She then confronts Brad. He points out Remi, attending the party, as being involved with Flora.
In between edging closer to a suspect, Alejandro shocking Carmen because he's gay and an unstable ex-wife hanging from a silk tieback (she is a decorator, so plain rope would not do) from a tree, this episode had something a little lacking in recent installments. It was funny.
Here are the episode's best lines, in context of their scenes.
1) Over coffee with the other maids, Carmen gossips over her latest chore, which repulses her. Alejandro asked her to shave his back while Odessa (Melinda Page Hamilton) is in the hospital.
"If you cross a werewolf with a Kardashian" you get an idea of how furry Alejandro is, Carmen says.
2) Adrian (Tom Irwin) is back in all of his sexual predator nastiness, making ham-handed passes at Rosie (Dania Ramirez) He follows her to the market, and surprised, she asks him: "Are you shopping?"
"In a matter of speaking," Adrian says.
"You make me uncomfortable," she says.
"That's because you are sensing my hidden agenda," he says.
"I don't know what that is," Rosie says. "But don't take it out."
3) Genevieve's (Susan Lucci) search for her next husband could be could very well be one of her exes. Former husband Philippe (Stephen Collins), Remi's dad, is back in the picture. He carted Remi off to rehab and brought him home. Plus he apologizes to Genevieve for being a lousy husband and dad.
Philippe invites Genevieve to an extravagant dinner. Genevieve, who always seems to be arranging flowers in a stunning off-white ensemble, flirts with her handsome ex.
"So we are clear," Genevieve says, with a smile, "if you stare at a pretty waitress while we are speaking, I will stab you in the neck with a fork."
4) Remi goes over to the Diaz family house for dinner, where Valentina cooked for him. Zoila (Judy Reyes) and her husband, Pablo (Alex Fernandez), welcome him, but Pablo's idea of being funny is asking Remi he ever tried heroin and if his favorite movie is "Trainspotting."
Zoila admonishes her husband, and he tells her, "So you do the small talk."
Valentina storms off when Remi does not know their last name or if Valentina has siblings.
"Bet you wish you had some heroin right now, huh?" Pablo asks.
Valentina is dismayed that she knows so much more about Remi than he does about her. She realizes how unequal their relationship is. That happens when one is the employer and the other the hired help.
Zoila comes though for her daughter, though, and tells her to quit the job. Then he will see her as a young woman and not as someone waiting on him. Plus, school starts soon anyway.
By the end of this episode, though, it could be that Remi won't be heading to school, but to court.
