Matt Lauer talks 'interesting' year on 'Tonight Show': 'I'm not a guy who complains'
Matt Lauer made an appearance on "The Tonight Show" on Thursday (May 2), during which Jay Leno lightly asked about the "hits in the press" he's taken lately.
The "Today" show host didn't seem to want to dig too deep into situation, attempting to put a positive spin on all the negative attention he's received as of late.
"It's been an interesting year, no question about it," Lauer told Leno. "But the fact of the matter is every day millions of people still invite us into their homes to deliver the news. I am not a guy who complains. I love this job. I really do."
Leno also asked about the show of support fellow "Today" host Kathie Lee Gifford sent Lauer's way by circulating a letter amongst the staff, asking other staffers to sign their support for the venerable anchor.
"Kathie Lee did something very, very sweet a coupe of weeks ago. She went around and she just passed around a note and had member of the staff just sign it, saying, 'Things are going to be okay,'" Lauer explained. "She's kind and she's compassionate -- and she's been there.
"My mother always told me in times of adversity you find out who your friends are -- Kathie Lee's a great friend."
