Rainn Wilson joins CBS pilot 'Backstrom'
Even though NBC's "The Office" is closing for good in May, Rainn Wilson may not be off TV for long if CBS picks up the drama pilot "Backstrom."Wilson will play the title role of Everett Backstrom, an overweight, offensive, irascible detective who tries, and fails, to change his self-destructive behavior. He'll lead a cast that also includes Dennis Haysbert ("24)," Kristoffer Polaha ("Life Unexpected") and Page Kennedy ("Weeds").
Wilson's post-"Office" future has been in flux after NBC decided not to pursue a spinoff featuring his character Dwight Schrute. The network made him an offer for the comedy pilot "Donor Party" with a six-episode guarantee, but Wilson turned it down. Maybe the move into drama was what he was waiting for all along.
