A Few Words With ...
'Nikki & Sara Live!'s' Nikki Glaser gives University of Kansas quite the recommendation
Zap2it: How did you start stand-up?Nikki Glaser: I started at 18 or 19 and have been doing it ever since. I did theater in high school and loved it. I didn't have a passion for [stand-up], and I stumbled upon it. And when I went away to college, people told me I was funny and should start stand-up. I Googled it. I grew up watching Leno and Conan and Letterman, but I didn't really have an affinity for stand-up, mainly because I did not see many females doing it. Then I saw Sarah Silverman and Wendy Liebman, and I thought, "Oh my God, this is what I need to be doing."
Zap2it: Where did you go to college, and what did you study?
Nikki Glaser: I was at University of Colorado-Boulder, then transferred to University of Kansas and studied English because I knew I wanted to do stand-up. It was, "Get me out of this as quickly as possible." It was, do whatever was easiest for me and not have to go to class as much.
Zap2it: How did you get onstage the first time?
Nikki Glaser: My first time onstage telling jokes, my first time ever was a comedy show on campus my friends signed me up for. They said, "We are not letting you not do this." I called my dad and said, "I want to quit school and do this." And he said, "How about you work on it while in school?"
