Anthony Bourdain's CNN show 'Parts Unknown' premieres in April

The chef-turned-author-turned TV traveler's new series, "Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown," will launch on Sunday, April 14, CNN says. The first episode will follow Bourdain as he explores the food and culture of Myanmar, which has only recently opened its borders to outsiders.

Bourdain also travels to Colombia, Libya, Peru, Quebec and L.A.'s Koreatown neighborhood in "Parts Unknown," which will air eight episodes in its first season.

The show shares a lot of DNA (and a producing team) with his previous series "No Reservations" and "A Cook's Tour." Bourdain has said one of the reasons he moved from Travel Channel to CNN is that the news network would help him gain access to places he might not otherwise have been able to go.

Bourdain's show is one of several CNN is trying out on weekends in an effort to build up its long-form documentary programming. The channel is also working with Morgan Spurlock on a series.
