'Vampire Diaries' 'Originals' spin-off casts Leah Pipes as the lead human, Camille

leah-pipes-tca.jpg"The Vampire Diaries" spin-off, "The Originals," has found its Elena -- but she's no blushing ingenue. "Sorority Row" actress Leah Pipes has landed the role of Camille, the show's only human lead, in the backdoor pilot, which will air as an episode of "TVD" on April 25.

As we previously reported, Camille is a bartender who is fascinated by the question of whether people can be born bad. After an unimaginably tragic event in her family, Cami became a psychology student in order to study human behavior, in the hopes of proving that people can't just be "evil."

Her fixation on the subject might just help her bond with Klaus (Joseph Morgan), though Cami is unaware that her corner of New Orleans is crawling with supernatural beings who toe the line between good and evil.

Like Elena before her, Cami could find herself torn between two vampire brothers -- the ever-charming Elijah (Daniel Gillies) will be joining the show as well. The show will also star Phoebe Tonkin, Charles Michael Davis, Daniella Pineda and Danielle Campbell.

Pipes is best known for her roles in "Sorority Row," ABC's "The Deep End," and The CW's short-lived "Life Is Wild." The casting was first reported by THR. Pipes is the final series regular to join the cast who isn't reprising a "TVD" role.
