'The Jeff Probst Show' canceled after one season, latest daytime casualty

jeff-probst-tca-gi.jpg"Survivor" host Jeff Probst must be happy he kept his primetime job because his daytime talk show, "The Jeff Probst Show," won't survive for Season 2.

CBS TV Distribution has pulled the plug on Probst's syndicated series citing disappointing ratings, but will continue to produce new episodes through the end of this season. Probst becomes the latest high profile daytime host to see his series canceled following recent axings of fellow freshman "The Ricki Lake Show" and sophomore "Anderson Cooper Live."

Meanwhile, Katie Couric, Steve Harvey and Trisha Goddard have all seen their first season shows renewed for next year.

Despite, or perhaps because of, the void left in daytime TV by the departure of Oprah Winfrey the arena has become increasingly competitive. Queen Latifah will enter the fray next season and Kris Jenner has a summer test run that could develop into a full-fledged series.
