TV ratings: 'Private Practice' ends on an up note Tuesday and 'The Taste' starts OK

The series finale of "Private Practice" scored its best ratings in three months and helped ABC win a pretty quiet Tuesday night among adults 18-49. The network's culinary competition "The Taste" had an OK premiere, improving its 18-49 rating in each half-hour.

Elsewhere, CBS easily won the night in viewers despite airing reruns the entire night. FOX's comedies were up a bit over last week, but "Go On" and "The New Normal" slid for NBC. The season finale of "Parenthood" was also down some, although it still led its hour in the 18-49 demographic.

CBS drew 10.5 million viewers and a 6.8 rating/10 share in households in primetime, easily beating second-place ABC's 5.8 million viewers and 3.8/6. NBC (4.7 million, 3.1/5) finished third. FOX (3.4 million, 2.1/3) came in fourth for the night, and The CW (1.5 million, 1.0/2) trailed.

None of the networks managed to break a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demo. ABC led the way with a 1.9, while FOX and NBC tied for second at 1.6. CBS averaged a 1.5 and The CW a 0.6.
