'Downton Abbey' Season 3 episode 3: Anna thinks Bates is trying to set her free
Check out this sneak peek clip of "Downton Abbey's" latest episode, airing this coming Sunday (Jan. 20). It appears as though things are quite chilly between Mary and Matthew. Not only has Lavinia's father's money driven a wedge between them, but their inability to conceive is obviously something they are both worried about.
Meanwhile, Bates has apparently stopped Anna's visits and hasn't written to her in weeks. Poor Anna thinks he's trying to be gallant and set her free, wanting her to make a new life without him.
Luckily, Mrs. Hughes is there to talk some sense into Anna. We all know Bates is very gallant, but there's no way he'd give Anna the brush off like that. Even if he did want to set her free, he'd be more of a gentleman about it than simply stopping writing to her, don't you think?
"Downton Abbey" airs Sunday nights at 9 p.m. ET/PT on PBS.
