'Psych' picked up for Season 8 on USA [Updated]

UPDATE: USA says Season 8 will be just eight episodes. Still no word on a premiere date.

Season 7 of "Psych" doesn't start for more than two months, but the show has already been picked up for an eighth year.

The show announced the Season 8 pickup on its Twitter and Facebook pages, offering up a picture of an 8 with pineapple leaves on top of it. The pickup extends what was already USA's longest-running original series.

There's no word yet on when an eighth season might debut. Season 7 is scheduled to premiere Feb. 27, and the way USA typically divides its seasons, it will likely be summer before it ends. That would push the Season 8 premiere to fall, at least.

But we're guessing "Psych" fans will wait for iiiit, no matter when the eighth season arrives.
