'Glee' -- Bette Midler rumor: The actress-singer is still waiting for a call from Ryan Murphy

Bette Midler is fueling "Glee" rumors: The actress and singer is just waiting for word from Ryan Murphy about guest-starring on his show. That will probably come soon -- when one of the biggest names in modern acting and singing is waiting on your call, you make it.

Midler explained the situation during an interview with Access Hollywood: "I don't know. [Murphy] never called me," she said during a junket for her new film, "Parental Guidance." "He mentioned it, but... I'm still waiting for the call."

The original offer came from when Midler and Murphy met at an event honoring fashion designer Michael Kors. "Ryan was also honored that night and he said, 'If Bette Midler's in the house, I want to invite her onto 'Glee.' And I went 'OK!'"

Alas for fans of the Divine Miss M, there has been no follow-up.

There was no discussion at the time of what kind of role Midler could play on FOX's musical-comedy. Considering the woman's singing voice and acting skills, there really isn't much she couldn't play on "Glee." If she did appear on the show, however, Midler has already picked out her dream role: "Maybe I could play [Sue's] evil sister!"

Ryan Murphy really needs to make this happen.
