'Bates Motel' trailer debuts new Norman Bates in 'Psycho' prequel series

freddie-highmore-vera-farmiga-norman-norma-bates-motel-2013-a-e.jpgA new two and a half minute trailer for the upcoming A&E series "Bates Motel" -- inspired by Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" -- is giving us the most in-depth look yet at the show's style. And we like what we see.

Freddie Highmore stars as young Norman Bates and Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga is his screwed-up mother, Norma. As Farmiga explains in the trailer: "We're not remaking Psycho, we're using it as an inspiration."

Executive producer Carlton Cuse ("Lost") notes that the show is set in a "contemporary world," and fellow e.p. Kerry Ehrin ("Friday Night Lights") promises a lot of "twists and turns." That seems obvious already from the creepy, action-packed and wonderfully mysterious trailer.

"You don't think about the future, or what's gonna happen when you grow up?" asks Norman's teacher (Keegan Connor Tracy). The question is chilling.
