The contest begins today on Facebook and continues through Jan. 3, 2013. "Bates Motel" fans can submit their "pitch" as a fifteen-second video submission. Executive producer Carlton Cuse ("Lost") will evaluate the submissions and choose the idea that "best represents the mood, tone, and overall feel of the series."

Whether or not the winning submission ultimately becomes the title sequence for "Bates Motel," the winner will receive a $2,500 prize.

"We want to give fans the chance to participate in the show," Cuse says in a statement. "We're looking for an awesome fifteen-second title sequence that captures the feel of 'Bates Motel' -- not as a slasher/horror show, but as a complex, character-based thriller."

The series -- premiering in March -- stars Freddie Highmore as young Norman Bates and Oscar-nominee Vera Farmiga as his mother, Norma, and follows the pair as they take over ownership of the infamous Bates Motel.
