TV ratings: 'New Girl' and 'NCIS' fall Tuesday but 'Hart of Dixie' and 'Emily Owens' rise

Ratings on the big four networks were for the most part down Tuesday, with "NCIS," "New Girl," "The Voice" and "Private Practice" all down -- the latter hitting a series low for an original episode.

The CW bucked the trend, however. "Hart of Dixie" scored its biggest audience in almost a year, and "Emily Owens, M.D." was up considerably over its last original episode. FOX's "The Mindy Project" and NBC's "The New Normal" also improved on their last original episodes.

CBS kept its hold on the top spot in viewers, averaging 14.3 million people and a 9.2 rating/14 share in households for the night. NBC (7.1 million, 4.2/7) was a distant second. ABC (6.5 million, 4.4/7) came in third, well ahead of FOX's 3.5 million viewers and 2.1/3. The CW averaged 1.55 million viewers and a 1.0/1.

NBC led the adults 18-49 demographic -- barely -- with a 2.6 rating, edging CBS' 2.5. FOX finished third with a 1.7, followed by ABC, 1.4, and The CW, 0.5.
