American Music Awards 2012: Carly Rae Jepsen wins Best New Artist
Carly Rae Jepsen has a lot of reasons to be excited about her debut at the American Music Awards this year. Not only did she kill it during her live performance of "This Kiss" and "Call Me Maybe" towards the top of the show (and have cameras catch Kelly Rowland singing along), but she also had her Best New Artist award presented by the Backstreet Boys.
Oh sorry, was the emphasis a little off there? Regardless, it's a pretty big deal that Jepsen is taking home the Best New Artist award. As the men of BSB pointed out, artists like them who have won that honor have come back to be bigger and better in later years. For her part, Jepsen seemed thrilled.
"Oh my goodness, thank you so much. To the fans, I am floored. Wow," she said during her acceptance speech, thanking Interscope, School Boy Records, Scooter Braun, Justin Bieber, her boyfriend Matthew Koma (who got a smooch as Jepsen walked up to the stage) and her friends, family and fans. "This is amazing. Thank you so so so so much. Wow."
