'X-Files' creator Chris Carter is working on a new series

chris-carter-gi.jpgChris Carter is at work on a new TV series project, his first since the end of "The X-Files."

The downside: The project isn't currently set up at any network in the United States.

Carter's show is called "The After," and it's described as a thriller that takes place in the aftermath of a mysterious and unexplained happening. It will incorporate "elements of science fiction, suspense, and real-world fear and paranoia," according to the press release announcing the project.

In other words, it doesn't sound as if Carter is straying too far from his "X-Files" wheelhouse.

"The After" comes from independent producer Georgeville Television, which is also behind NBC's upcoming pirate series "Crossbones" and a remake of the old British series "Blake's 7" for Syfy. Georgeville and distributor Sierra/Affinity are taking Carter's project to the MIPCOM convention in Cannes, France, later this month to try to line up buyers.

Whether "The After" ends up on American airwaves remains to be seen.
