'Partners' David Krumholtz's first crush: 'We are now friends on Facebook'

Zap2it: How do you describe your "Partners" character?

David Krumholtz: Joe is loosely based on (co-creator) Dan Kohan. He's (the) more pragmatic, more sensible neurotic guy. He can bear and has borne the burden of Louis' form of drama. At times it gets to be a bit much.

Zap2it: How long do these two go back?

David Krumholtz: They were friends since single digits, 8 or 9, when they both started developing crushes.

Zap2it: Who was your crush then?

David Krumholtz: Esther Gorman. I had my grandmother bring her a box of chocolates on Valentine's Day. I was 8 years old and rejected. She rejected me 10 times, until I was 15. We are now friends on Facebook.

Zap2it: Your bio mentions that your mom left Hungary in 1956. Was it during the Revolution, and has she returned?

David Krumholtz: Yes, and my whole thing is to get her back. She never had the time, money or opportunity and hasn't been there in 56 years. I think it will be an extraordinary trip for her.

Zap2it: Since some of "Partners" is based on the relationship between the show's creators, do you look to them for guidance?

David Krumholtz: I am not sure if they are totally conscious of how much we are getting from them. What they are really saying to the other is "I love you. I love you. I love you." It's loosely based on them. They are not doing it like we would do it.

Zap2it: You're a New York actor. Do you want to do Broadway?

David Krumholtz: I got really lucky as a kid. I did "Conversations With My Father" with Judd Hirsch.
