Meet 'Supernatural's' Ty Olsson: His 'Bieber fan' moment and 7 more things to know

This week's Season 8 premiere of "Supernatural" is a fantastic episode, with the potential to rejuvenate a series that many fans thought was wilting last season. A major factor in the strength of the episode is the introduction of Ty Olsson as Benny, a vampire who has been in Purgatory for half a century when he catches wind of Dean (Jensen Ackles) a human, being stuck there -- and finally sees a way out.

Benny hasn't walked the earth in 50 years, so it's understandable that he doesn't quite fit in on earth -- but what's more fascinating is how profoundly he understands Dean's struggle to adjust. The men have grown undeniably close during their time in Purgatory, and given Dean's general aversion to monsters, the show has a lot of explaining to do -- and we can't wait for the answers to play out on screen.

It's not the first time Olsson, a prolific Canadian actor with 25 years of TV credits, has appeared on "Supernatural." He played another vampire named Eli back in Season 2, and producers loved him so much they brought him back in a new role. He's also known for work on "Defying Gravity," "Battlestar Gallactica," and he'll reprise his role as Phil in the upcoming "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2." of Zap2it's Ones to Watch for Fall 2012. What's the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
I have several. I shared an iTunes account with my wife and daughter for a long time. Bad 80's music... "I am the Warrior" from ... Pat Benatar? I don't even know. Shame. I feel shame.

Do you have any current pop culture obsessions/addictions/guilty pleasures?
UFC. Addicted. I know way to much and train MMA. I know most fighters' nicknames and a lot of their stats. I have issues.

Is there a celebrity you've met who made you feel starstruck? Tell us about it.
I went to UFC event in Vancouver to see The Iceman Chuck Liddell fight Rich Franklin. He lost via KO and retired after. I was having brunch on a downtown patio after and saw him walking by ... I jumped outta my seat and scared the hell outta my wife. She thought I was gonna get in a fight I was so intense. Ran up to him just to shake his hand and say "Good fight, amazing career, huge fan." Gushing like a Justin Bieber fan... I made myself a little sick, haha.

What food can you not resist?
French Canadian poutine. French fries, gravy and cheese curds. Good poutine is a little bit of heaven and sex rolled into one ;) Great. Now I want one.

Do you have any strange phobias?
I'm always afraid that I have a mental disorder of the kind where the person doesn't know they have it. Isn't that the scariest? What if I'm just plain nuts and everyone knows it but me? I mean I know I'm a little off but having it diagnosed and labeled "you, good sir, are a clinical blah blah blah" -- don't want that baggage . Blissfully unaware, slightly nutty is the way to go.

If you could be anywhere in the world right now, where would you be?
Anywhere with my children. Great, thanks. Now I miss them. And I want poutine.

What do your friends make fun of you for?
Having such a terrible memory. I live in the moment ... To much sometimes ... Who's got room for the past ? That's what photos and video is for :)

What's the most random thing in your purse or wallet?
I wish I owned a purse, I have so much crap in my pockets. I wear cargo pants just for the pockets. Love finding stuff from my last time out. Money, phone numbers ... I'm like "The Hangover" in real life. Look in my pockets and think ... "Where did this come from???" I can't even pick one thing.
