'Beverly Hills Cop' TV series books Brandon T. Jackson as Axel Foley's son

brandon-t-jackson-2012-gi.jpgPlans for a TV series inspired by "Beverly Hills Cop" are moving right along at CBS, and it sounds like the show may have found its star in Brandon T. Jackson.

The 28-year-old actor is best known for his roles in "Tropic Thunder," "Percy Jackson & the Olympians" and "Big Mommas: Like Father, Like Son," but landing the role of Axel Foley's son could significantly boost his star wattage. Humor Mill reported the news.

The "Beverly Hills Cop" series will be executive produced by Shawn Ryan ("Last Resort," "The Shield") and Eddie Murphy, who also plans to reprise his iconic role as Axel Foley in special guest appearances. But Jackson's character Aaron Foley, a blue collar cop in Detroit trying to escape the shadow of his famous father who is now the chief of police, will drive the action.

After rumors of the show leaked out in late summer, it landed at CBS with a pilot commitment and is now shaping up to be one of the hottest prospects for fall 2013.
