TV ratings: 'The X Factor' improves in week 2 while 'Survivor' is up over last year

Ratings for "The X Factor" improved some Wednesday over last week's modest premiere, giving FOX a demographic victory for the night.

The premiere of "Survivor: Philippines" on CBS, meanwhile, improved on its total-viewer numbers from both of last season's premieres -- although it was down a bit in adults 18-49 -- and beat "The X Factor" head-to-head in viewers. The "Big Brother" season finale was off a bit from last year, though.

FOX brought in 9.4 million viewers and a 5.5 rating/9 share in households for the night, narrowly beating CBS (9.3 million, 5.5/9) for the top spot. NBC was a fairly distant third with 4.9 million viewers and a 3.3/5. ABC (3.6 million, 2.5/4) finished fourth, and The CW trailed with about 950,000 viewers and a 0.6/1.

FOX also led the 18-49 demographic with a 3.5 rating. CBS came in second with a 2.8. NBC grabbed third with a 1.4, followed by ABC, 1.1, and The CW, 0.4.
