MTV Video Music Awards moved up to avoid Obama speech conflict

barack-obama-democratic-national-convention-pics-mtv-speech-time-thumbs-up-gi.jpgViewers won't have to make the difficult decision Thursday (Sept. 6) night about whether to watch Taylor Swift sing her new single or President Barack Obama accept the Democratic nomination for a second term. MTV has moved up the start time for its annual Video Music Awards, so now you can watch both.

MTV says Tuesday that it will run the show an hour earlier than usual so as not to conflict with Obama's speech. The VMAs will air from 8-10 p.m. ET, while the president is scheduled to speak from the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte, N.C., after 10 p.m.

Last year's awards show was watched by 12.4 million people with the highlight of the 2011 VMAs being Beyonce's pregnancy announcement -- beat that, Mr. President.
