Jimmy Kimmel rips Mitt Romney in Emmy monologue

jimmy-kimmel-monologue-emmys-primetime-abc.jpgJimmy Kimmel didn't waste any time getting to this year's Presidential election in his opening monologue at the Emmys. And the prime target was Republican nominee Mitt Romney.

After getting the obligatory "Honey Boo Boo" reference out of the way, Kimmel segued to praising PBS' breakout hit "Downton Abbey." He used the British period drama to go in for the attack. "'Downton Abbey' really gives us the sense of what it was like to grow up in Mitt Romney's household," Kimmel joked. (Because it's a show about rich people and their servants, get it?)

"Is anyone here voting for Mitt Romney?" Kimmel quizzed the audience and received a smattering of applause in return. "Oh good, only 40 Republicans, and the rest godless liberal homosexuals," Kimmel quipped and continued: "Being a Republican in Hollywood is like being a Chick-fil-A sandwich on the snack table at 'Glee.'"

In the name of fair play, he tossed a few softballs at Barack Obama, noting that the President has said his favorite show is Showtime's terrorism fighting government agency drama "Homeland." "I don't think the president should be watching 'Homeland' for the same reason I don't think Charlie Sheen should be watching 'Breaking Bad.'"
