Creative Arts Emmy Award winners: 'Game of Thrones' leads with 6; Kathy Bates and Jimmy Fallon nab guest acting trophies

"Game of Thrones" nabbed six trophies in today's (Sept. 15) Creative Arts Emmy Awards, making it the big winner in the technically focused precursor to the Primetime Emmys.

Kathy Bates, who announced this week that she underwent a double mastectomy for breast cancer, was named Outstanding Guest Actress for "Two and a Half Men"; while Jimmy Fallon ("Saturday Night Live"), Jeremy Davies ("Justified") -- a surprise upset over Michael J. Fox -- and Martha Plimpton ("The Good Wife") were also winners in the guest acting categories.

PBS' "Frozen Planet" and "Great Expectations" (Masterpiece) followed just behind "Game of Thrones" with four wins apiece, along with "Saturday Night Live."

Other multiple winners included "Boardwalk Empire" (HBO), "Hatfield & McCoys" (History), the "65th Annual Tony Awards" (CBS) "Deadliest Catch" (Discovery), "Downton Abbey" (PBS) and "Homeland" (Showtime).

Also, better get used to NBC referring to its often-mocked musical series "Smash" as an Emmy winner (for choreography). Miracles do happen!

In all, more than 70 awards were handed out in the five-hour ceremony, which will air in a condensed two-hour telecast next Saturday, Sept. 22, on ReelzChannel. The Primetime Emmy Awards air Sunday, Sept. 23, on ABC.
