Michael J. Fox shops new comedy series and makes networks salivate

Michael J. Fox hasn't exactly "left" television since he ended his time on "Spin City" in 2001 -- he's guest-starred on five series and racked up five Emmy nominations (including one win) in the past decade.

But news that he's ready to take on the lead role in a new series? That's kind of a big deal.

Fox, writer Sam Laybourne ("Cougar Town," "The Loop") and director Will Gluck ("Easy A") have pitched a comedy series to the broadcast networks, and according to Vulture the project has incited a bidding war ("feeding frenzy" is how one source put it).

Details of the project are few, but Vulture says it's a single-camera show "inspired by" Fox's life. That could mean a lot of things: a family show, a series centered on a celebrity, a show about someone living with a chronic disease (Fox has been living with Parkinson's disease for 20 years). Competition for the project likely means it will get at least a pilot order, and possibly even a series commitment.

Fox is up for a pair of guest-acting Emmys this year, one for "The Good Wife" and one for "Curb Your Enthusiasm."
