'How I Met Your Mother' gives Abby Elliott her first post-'Saturday Night Live' role

It didn't take long for Abby Elliott to find a new TV job after leaving "Saturday Night Live."

Elliott will guest-star on an episode of "How I Met Your Mother" in the fall, playing Janeane, "the craziest girl the 'HIMYM' gang has ever encountered," co-creator Craig Thomas says.

"The strange, inexplicable phenomenon is: The crazier Janeane gets, the more attractive one of the gang finds her," Thomas tells EW. "It doesn't end well."

Smart money would probably have either Ted (Josh Radnor) or Barney (Neil Patrick Harris) being the one who can't resist Janeane, but as a wild card? Lily (Alyson Hannigan). Elliott's real-life dad, Chris Elliott, play's Lily's father on the show, so we could see the new mom being drawn to Abby's character.

There's no word on whether both Elliotts will appear in an episode together; Abby's first episode hasn't been scheduled yet. "How I Met Your Mother" begins its eighth season on CBS Sept. 24.
