'Smash' and 'Up All Night' add new regulars to their casts

krysta-rodriguez-luka-jones-casting.jpgA pair of NBC series going into their second seasons have added new members to their casts.

"Smash" is giving Karen (Katharine McPhee) a new roommate, while Christina Applegate's character on "Up All Night" is getting a brother.

On "Smash," Broadway actress Krysta Rodriguez ("The Addams Family") will play Karen's "fun and spunky" new roomie. Karen presumably will need one after splitting with Dev (Raza Jaffrey won't be a regular next season). The character is an ensemble actress in Broadway shows who's looking for a big break, which makes it sound as though she has more in common with Ivy (Megan Hilty) than Karen.

Rodriguez originated the role of Wednesday in the "Addams Family" musical and has also appeared in the 2007 revival of "A Chorus Line" and "In the Heights." Her screen credits include a guest role on "Gossip Girl" and the Will Ferrell-produced movie "The Virginity Hit."

"Up All Night," meanwhile, has added Luka Jones ("Best Friends Forever") to its cast, TV Guide reports. He'll play Reagan's (Applegate) recently divorced younger brother, who's less high-strung than his sister and has a young child of his own.

Jones is a member of the Upright Citizens Brigade and has guested on "How I Met Your Mother."

"Up All Night" is scheduled for Thursday nights on NBC in the fall, while "Smash" will be back at midseason
