'Sherlock' star Benedict Cumberbatch to voice 'The Simpsons' character

benedict-cumberbach-sherlock.jpgYou know you've made it when you get to voice a character on "The Simpsons"!

Okay, so Benedict Cumberbatch probably knew he made it when he was chosen to star in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek" sequel and when "Sherlock" was nominated for every award ever, but "The Simpsons" is a pretty cool perk, too.

Cumberbatch was in Los Angeles when he pretty much stumbled into a part on the iconic animated series. "I was at a meeting in the same place 'The Simpsons' is recorded and heard there was a part going in an episode," he tells InStyle. "I said, 'I hate to muscle in here guys but could I record it?' Next thing, I'm standing in a room with all those famous voices; Bart, Marge, Homer, Lisa."

No word yet on when his episode will air, but we'll keep you posted. Any guess how long it'll take for his "Simpsons" character to inspire elaborate fan fiction?

UPDATE: TVLine reports that Cumberbatch has actually booked two roles in the episode "Love Is A Many-Splintered Thing." He'll play the British Prime Minister, and a snake.
