'Hell on Wheels' Season 2: Greed is back and so is Common (PICS)

Season 2 of AMC's "Hell on Wheels" is set to roll on Sunday, Aug. 12, but Zap2it has some early pictures from the continuing story that follows a former Confederate soldier (Anson Mount) as he makes his way west with the construction of the transcontinental railroad.

The gritty show also stars Common as Elam Ferguson, an emancipated slave working to achieve true freedom in a world entrenched in prejudice; Colm Meaney as Thomas "Doc" Durant, a greedy entrepreneur taking full advantage of the changing times, and Dominique McElligott as Lily Bell, a newly widowed woman trying to survive in a man's world.

In the pictures, we get a peek at Foreman Schmidt (Brian Jensen), Micky McGinnes (Philip Burke), Thomas "Doc" Duran, Elam and Sean McGinnes (Ben Esler).

"Hell on Wheels" premieres Sunday, Aug. 12 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
