A Few Words With ...
'Hawaii Five-0's' Daniel Dae Kim: Reiko Aylesworth 'deserves better.'
Zap2it: In the Season 2 finale of "Hawaii Five-0," your character, Chin Ho Kelly, was forced to choose between saving his cousin, Kono (Grace Park), and his wife, Malia (Reiko Aylesworth). He chose Malia but may lose her anyway. This is not the first time Reiko has been a doomed wife -- she perished while married to Tony Almeida (Carlos Bernard) on "24." What's going on?
Daniel Dae Kim: Reiko and I joke about this all the time. She's always the dying wife. She deserves better. It's more than two in a row. She's done a few of these. I think it happened on "24," it happened on "Lost," it happened here. But she deserves to be featured and have a husband that maybe is disposable.
Zap2it: After losing his wife, Tony seemed to go over to the dark side. What lies ahead for Chin Ho?
Daniel Dae Kim: Who knows what will happen to Chin Ho? Who knows if he goes Tony's way? We'll see. Chin's story is more about the consequences of choices, because he is put in a position where he has to make a terrible decision. Depending on what happens with his cousin, who clearly he loves - what does that mean for him and his relationship with Kono?
So how he deals with that loss and the choice that he made is going to be great stuff. There's a lot of, I don't want to call it a gray area, but definitely areas of ambiguity and darkness, potential darkness for his character in Season 3.
