'Go On': 'Perfect Couples' star Christine Woods cast as [spoiler]

christine-woods-go-on-gi.jpgNBC's new comedy "Go On" begins with Matthew Perry's character entering a therapy group to deal with the death of his wife a month earlier. But even though she's dead, we'll still get to meet her.

Executive producers Scott Silveri and Jon Pollack tell Zap2it they just signed Christine Woods -- who starred on their last show, "Perfect Couples" -- as the late wife of Ryan King (Perry). She'll first appear early in the season in what Silveri describes as a combination of a dream sequence and flashback.

Having Ryan be able to talk to his wife will help him work through his grief, Silveri says, but it also provides the character a chance to be romantic.

"You want to be realistic and respectful of the subject matter, so we don't want to throw the guy into a relationship," Silveri says. "But at the same time it's part of human experience. So it's nice to see him just flirting with someone. It lightens things a little bit. And she's at the center of the things he's dealing with, so why not put her in the room?"

In addition to "Perfect Couples," Woods starred on ABC's "FlashForward" and has guested on "Castle" and "Necessary Roughness."

"Go On" will have a commercial-free preview on Aug. 8 following NBC's Olympics broadcast and premieres at 9 p.m. ET Tuesday, Sept. 11.
