'Game of Thrones' finale pulled from distribution because of George W. Bush's head

george-w-bush-head-game-of-thrones.jpgIf you've been planning to pick up a copy of "Game of Thrones" Season 1 on DVD or Blu-ray, you'd better act fast. After the media picked up on the fact that George W. Bush's decapitated head appears briefly in the season 1 finale, HBO has halted shipping of Season 1 box sets according to Deadline.

Additionally, you can no longer access the finale via streaming sites like HBO Go, or download it via iTunes or Amazon Instant. (If you try, it just says "Not available.") Hopefully you weren't in the middle of marathoning the first season!

HBO released the following statement this week, regarding the head: "We were deeply dismayed to see this and find it unacceptable, disrespectful and in very bad taste. We made this clear to the executive producers of the series who apologized immediately for this inadvertent careless mistake.  We are sorry this happened and will have it removed from any future DVD production."

The funny thing about that, though, is that this isn't exactly new information. Though the media only just picked up on it, the George W. Bush head was mentioned in the commentary on the Season 1 DVD, which has been available in stores since February. You'd think that someone at HBO would've, oh, maybe listened to the commentary before the release... or at least in the months that have passed since.
