"Saturday Night Live" is going to be down at least two regulars going into next season. Andy Samberg has confirmed that he's leaving the sketch comedy show.

Samberg broke the news to the New York Times on Friday (June 1) that he will join Kristen Wiig as the most recent alums of the program.

"It's an incredibly emotional and strange moment in my life," Samberg tells the publication. "Obviously it's not a huge shock, but I did officially decide not to come back."

He adds that leaving "SNL" was "one of the hardest decisions I've ever made...Something about it just feels like it's the moment. My contract's up and I did so much more than I ever thought I would ever even do."

Samberg joined the program in 2005 and became popular for his digital shorts including "I'm on a Boat" and "Lazy Sunday."

It may not be the last for funny man on the show. He tells the publication that he'd like to continue making shorts for "SNL."

"That's the kind of thing that I really do hope happens," Samberg says.
