'The X Factor': Demi Lovato and Britney Spears not confirmed yet

It may only be a matter of hours before Britney Spears and Demi Lovato are introduced as part of "The X Factor," but for now FOX is keeping mum on their involvement for next season.

"We're not going to confirm that," says Peter Rice, chairman of Fox Broadcasting, of reports that Spears and Lovato have signed contracts to appear on the show. "We're not going to comment on it right now."

It may just be a case of FOX not wanting to steal its own thunder at the network's upfront presentation Monday afternoon (May 14). Spears is reportedly in New York for the upfronts, and Lovato is expected to be there as well.

Negotiations for both Lovato and Spears have gone down to the wire as FOX and "X Factor" creator Simon Cowell look to revamp the show for its second season. Miley Cyrus has reportedly been in talks to serve as host of the show, but a deal apparently isn't done yet.
