The CW picks up 'Arrow' and 'The Carrie Diaries' alongside 'Cult' and more

the-carrie-diaries-first.jpgWant to know what your CW schedule will look like in the fall? While the network won't announce its scheduling plans until its upfront presentation for advertisers on Thursday, May 17, it has given the green light to five -- yes, five! -- brand new shows, including "Arrow," "The Carrie Diaries," "Cult," "Beauty and the Beast" and "First Cut."

According to Deadline, the five new dramas officially got the word on Friday, May 11. "The Carrie Diaries" is a prequel of "Sex and the City," with Anna-Sophia Robb starring in the Carrie Bradshaw role. "Arrow" follows the comic book hero Green Arrow, while you can probably guess what "Beauty and the Beast" is about. "Cult" stars Matt Davis ("The Vampire Diaries") as a former journalist investigating -- you guessed it -- a cult, and "First Cut" is a medical drama staring Mamie Gummer.

"Nikita" and "Hart of Dixie" have both been renewed, while unfortunately the network's other freshman shows "Ringer" and "The Secret Circle" didn't make it to Season 2.
