'Nashville': Connie Britton is country strong on ABC this fall

connie-britton-nashville-ab.jpgABC is getting into the music business this fall with "Nashville," which uses the title city's country music industry as a backdrop.

Critical darling Connie Britton ("Friday Night Lights," "American Horror Story") stars in the drama as Rayna James, a former chart-topping singer whose career has hit a rough patch, until her label proposes a "co-headlining" tour with a young star (Hayden Panettiere, "Heroes," "Scream 4"). Think Taylor Swift, but without the humility.

It also works in politics -- Rayna's husband (Eric Close) wants to run for mayor -- and a healthy dose of family drama between Rayna and her father (Powers Boothe). "Thelma and Louise" writer Callie Khouri created the series, and R.J. Cutler ("The September Issue") directed the pilot.

"Nashville" will air at 10 p.m. ET Wednesdays on ABC. Take a look at the trailer:
