Kevin Williamson's 'The Following' picked up at FOX along with 'Mob Doctor'

fox-pickups-kevin-bacon-jordana-spiro.jpgFOX has added two new dramas to the three comedies it has picked up for the 2012-13 season.

The dramas are "The Following," a thriller from "The Vampire Diaries" executive producer Kevin Williamson that stars Kevin Bacon, and "The Mob Doctor," about a young physician (Jordana Spiro of "My Boys") who owes a big debt to gangsters in Chicago.

The two shows join a trio of comedies -- "The Goodwin Games," "Ben & Kate" (formerly "Ned Fox Is My Manny") and a show from "The Office" writer-producer-actress Mindy Kaling -- in FOX's lineup for next season.

"The Following" stars Bacon as a retired FBI profiler who's called back into the field to track the devotees of a serial killer (James Purefoy). Shawn Ashmore ("X-Men") and Natalie Zea ("Justified") also star.

"The Mob Doctor" comes from writers Josh Berman and Rob Wright ("Drop Dead Diva"). Spiro plays a surgeon who's forced to moonlight as a doctor for the mob. The cast also includes Zach Gilford ("Friday Night Lights"), Jaime Lee Kirchner ("Mercy") and William Forsythe ("Boardwalk Empire").

FOX announces its full 2012-13 schedule on Monday (May 14).
