'X Factor': Britney Spears closing in on deal to join show

After numerous fits and starts, it appears that Britney Spears is finally closing in on becoming a judge for "The X Factor."

Deadline is reporting that Spears and producers have agreed on all major deal points to get her on the show. This is big news considering the long-running negotiations seemed to have stalled for a while. The publication adds that Spears, should she sign, will likely receive in the $15 million per year range. As for whether Spears can opt out after one year, something that was once a point of concern, that status is still unknown.

The show has been looking for two new judges since they fired Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger after Season 1 wrapped. The search has reportedly included everyone from Janet Jackson to LeAnn Rimes to Avril Lavigne.

"X Factor" EP Simon Cowell has said once they finalize the judges panel, they will then look to fill the two hosting positions.
