Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson team up for 'True Detective' TV series

We know what you're thinking. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson signing up for a TV series? Is it about marijuana?

No, it is not. It's a rather intriguing-sounding crime drama, actually, albeit one that has no network home yet. The show, called "True Detective," is about to be shopped to cable channels, Deadline reports.

Harrelson and McConaughey are attached to play two detectives who are investigating a serial killer in Louisiana over the course of 17 years -- the case begins in 1995 and reopens in the present. Nic Pizzolatto, an author who wrote two episodes of "The Killing" last season, created the show, and Cary Fukunaga ("Jane Eyre") will direct.

"True Detective" is envisioned as an anthology series that would involve new characters and one big mystery each season. Thus, McConaughey and Harrelson are only committed to one year and eight episodes. If it's picked up, the show would be McConaughey's first regular TV role and Harrelson's first since "Cheers."
