Rick Schroder goes CIA; Jenna Elfman is the First Lady and more pilot casting news
Rick Schroder ("NYPD Blue," "Silver Spoons") has joined FOX's untitled Karyn Usher project, which focuses on a 14-year-old orphaned daughter of a CIA operative (Schroder) who then lands a mysterious agent (Julian McMahon) as her surrogate father/mentor. FOX's other CIA project, "The Asset," has cast the male lead in Hamish Linklater. This show is about a photographer (Ali Larter) who is also a CIA field operative. Linklater will play her handler. [Deadline]Ulrich Thomsen has been cast in Cinemax's new series "Banshee," the story of an ex-con who assumes the identity of the sheriff of Banshee, PA. Thomsen will play a wealthy local businessman who believes himself above the law. [TV Line]
Matthew Perry's NBC comedy "Go On" has cast "Playboy Club" alum Laura Benanti as Lauren, the head of the mandatory therapy group Perry's sportscaster character must attend after suffering a loss. NBC has also added Jenna Elfman to White House comedy "1600 Penn. Elfman will play the First Lady to Bill Pullman's POTUS, eager to win over her four stepchildren. [Deadline]
Anna Camp, recently seen on "True Blood" and "The Good Wife," has been cast in Mindy Kaling's FOX comedy pilot as the former college roommate and BFF of Kaling's main character, a Bridget Jones-ish OB/GYN. [TV Line]
CBS drama pilot "Golden Boy," starring "Downton Abbey" alum Theo James as a cop undergoing a meteoric rise to detective, has cast Bonnie Somerville as Det. Deborah McKenzie, the only female detective on the homicide squad. And NBC's women's prison drama "Bad Girls" has cast Tracee Ellis Ross as a high-powered businesswoman who is now serving time for selling fake mortgages. [Deadline]
