'Smash': Britney Spears not joining the show

"Smash" has apparently picked up a celebrity fan in Britney Spears -- who reportedly likes the show so much that she wants to be on it.

Contrary to a report, though, she's not currently in talks to appear on the NBC series.

On Thursday (Feb. 23) In Touch reported that Spears is "angling" for a role on the musical drama. The story quotes a source who says she had met with producers and the show is "looking for an appropriate role" for her.

A source close to the show, however, tells Zap2it there's no truth behind the report that Spears is in talks for a role.

"Smash" is currently in production on its final episodes of the season. Given the demands of choreographing, recording and filming the musical numbers along with the rest of the show, it's unlikely the show could write in a new character at the last minute.

There's always next season, though.
