Matt Lauer wants $30 million per year to stay on 'Today'

While NBC head Bob Greenblatt has said that keeping Matt Lauer on "Today" is his "number one priority," it looks like he'll need to back up the Brink's truck to do it.

TMZ is reporting that Lauer, who is in the last year of his contract, would be willing to re-up with the top-rated morning show for a whopping $30 million per year. This is nearly double his current salary of a reported $17 million.

If they can't come to an agreement, there have been rumblings that "Today" is looking toward Ryan Seacrest as a possible replacement. The Wall Street Journal reported in Dec. 2011 that NBC network brass even met with Seacrest to discuss such a possibility.

But at the recent Television Critics Association press tour, Greenblatt addressed the matter saying, "I think it's our hope and belief that Matt will stay on the show beyond the end of his contract." He added that he's also looking to "[figure] out how to take Ryan [Seacrest] and keep him in the family."
