Pilot Season: TV of Tomorrow
Kevin Bacon will hunt serial killers in Kevin Williamson's FOX pilot
Kevin Bacon has taken what could be his first-ever starring role on a TV series, signing on to a FOX drama from "The Vampire Diaries" and "The Secret Circle" executive producer Kevin Williamson.Bacon play a retired FBI profiler who's drawn into the case of a serial killer who has created a cult of followers, Deadline reports. Rather than committing to 22 episodes a season, however, he's only down for 15, suggesting a cable-like run for the series if it's picked up.
Williamson wrote the script for the untitled project and will serve as its exec producer. Frequent "Vampire Diaries" director Marcos Siega will direct.
Bacon had a few TV roles, including a stint on "Guiding Light," early in his career and scored an Emmy nomination and a Golden Globe win for his role in the 2009 HBO movie "Taking Chance." He's never committed full-time to a series, though.
His wife, Kyra Sedgwick, can probably offer him some advice. She recently finished filming her final season of "The Closer" for TNT; the episodes are set to air this summer.
The casting phase of pilot season is just beginning, but this will likely go down as one of the biggest gets of the cycle.
