'Boardwalk Empire' lets Paz de la Huerta go

A few days after adding Bobby Cannavale to its cast for Season 3, the HBO series has parted ways with Paz de la Huerta, who played Nucky's (Steve Buscemi) one-time mistress, Lucy Danziger. TVLine reports the show declined to pick up de la Huerta's contract option for next season.

Considering that Lucy was MIA for the second half of last season -- after giving birth to Van Alden's (Michael Shannon) baby, she went out to run an errand and never returned -- the news isn't the world's biggest surprise. Still, de la Huerta becomes the fourth member of the show's original cast (along with Michael Pitt, Aleksa Palladino and Dabney Coleman) not to make it to the third season.

Cannavale signed on to "Boardwalk Empire" late last week; he'll play a new thorn in Nucky's side in the show's third season, which will return in the fall.
