'Sherlock': Steven Moffat confirms Season 3; Holmes fans rejoice

sherlock.jpgIt's elementary. We simply can't get enough of "Sherlock," the BBC's updated take on the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle sleuth starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes and Martin Freeman as Dr. Watson. It's also official. According to creator Steven Moffat, the series is definitely queued up for a third season.

"#sherlock Yes of course there's going to be a third series," he confirms via Twitter. "It was commissioned at the same time as the second. Gotcha!"

Last week at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, Cumberbatch -- who is experiencing something of a career boom of late with roles in "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" and the next "Star Trek" installment -- pretty much spilled the beans about the additional "Sherlock" season.

"You might see it's quite hard for me to make it back by the end of the last episode," said Cumberbatch evasively. Though a moment later, executive producer Rebecca Eaton confirmed he would be back.

"Yes, he will be.  Yes.  Yes.  Yes.  Okay," she replied when asked if she could confirm his return.

Case closed. Now to start lobbying for Season 4.
