Mindy Kaling, Louis C.K. land comedy pilots at FOX, CBS

Two of the comedy world's hotter names at the moment are venturing outside their home turf with new projects.

"The Office" writer-producer-actress Mindy Kaling and "Louie" creator-star-everything Louis C.K. have each sold pilots. Kaling has set up an untitled project to FOX, while C.K. and former "Seinfeld" writer Spike Feresten are in business at CBS.

Kaling will write and star in the FOX project, Vulture reports. It's about a "Bridget Jones-type" OB/GYN who is walking the work-personal life tightrope. She and fellow "Office" producer Howard Klein will serve as executive producers.

Kaling has a deal with Universal Television and initially pitched the show to NBC. When the network passed, she was free to take it elsewhere, and it landed at FOX. What the pilot means for her future on "The Office" is an open question.

The C.K.-Feresten project will center on a group of people in their 20s trying to make it in a tough economy. Deadline reports that the Feresten and C.K. initially wrote a script based on the idea way back in 1998. It went nowhere at the time but was revived this season. Louis C.K. and Feresten rewrote the script and secured a pilot order.

They'll executive produce with Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun and Gene Stein, whose idea it was to revive the 1998 project.
